Today Teresa went in for an MRI. The purpose of the MRI is to help the dream team of doctors see the extent of the cancer…how large the cancer is and whether it involves the underlying muscle and if there are other cancers in the same breast and whether there is an unsuspected cancer in the opposite breast.
The MRI results won’t be known until Sunday, but for now Teresa will be undergoing a mastectomy. It is unclear if she would need radiation or chemo, as it would all depend upon if the cancer has spread through her lymph nodes to any other organs. By undergoing a mastectomy, there would be no risk of getting breast cancer again.
Bottom bottom line….we won’t know very much more (except the results of the MRI) until they go in for surgery. They are moving VERY quickly, and really seem to have their shit together. She is comfortable with the whole process, but unfortunately between the happy drugs they gave her and the nasty flu that she’s contracted, she’s feeling a little under the weather overall right now and just needs to sleep. But, as always, she was funny as hell, had a great attitude, and is taking it all in stride….
So, stand by for now…keep those prayers going, and keep sending that good positive energy! She’s gonna be just fine, for sure…she’s just gotta get past these speed bumps!
