Marathon of appointments

Posted on GiveForward

Today was a marathon of appointments for Teresa.  She had a lymph flow test done.  This is a new test that just came out in October.  Looks like the donations towards cancer are really going to work.
The purpose of this test is to find lymphedema; a build up of fluid in the soft tissues of the arm or chest area after breast cancer treatment.    The test uses small electrical currents to determine changes in the volume of fluid in the arm before and after breast cancer treatment.  This test is similar to an EKG.  It's non-invasive and pain free!!!!  We like those kind of visits ;-)
Teresa will get the results from this test soon.
She also met with her plastic surgeon to discuss her reconstruction options.  Teresa will be having a double or bilateral mastectomy.   There are two options for reconstruction...rebuilding the breast from tissue taken from her abdomen, lat area or inner thigh.  The other option is to have expanders inserted to stretch the skin out for implants.  There are benefits and risks to both options.  Teresa will make the choice that is best suited for her.
Last but not least, the poor girl came down with influenza.  Since she will be having surgery in the coming weeks, the surgical team recommended she be seen by her general practictioner to get the right kind of antibiotics to knock this thing out.  She can't proceed with her surgery until the cold is completely gone.
Her surgery date has not been set yet.  The doctors are in the process of scheduling her surgery.  She will know by Friday when that day will be.
Teresa continues to march forward with pride through this whole process.  The support from her family and friends has provided the necessary motivation and inspiration to continue to have a positive outlook on this.
Thank you for your prayers and all your positive thoughts!!
